For front-country campers, competing for a campsite booking can be frustrating.

And we all know the feeling of planning a getaway only to find out that others beat you to it. Parks Canada’s new ‘Notify me’ feature makes it easier to book and maximizes your chances of snagging a site even during peak season.

“Many cancellations occur in the week leading up to the arrival date. With many summer weekends ahead, boost your chances of snagging your dream camping spot by using the new ‘Notify me’ feature,” said Parks Canada in a Facebook post last week.

This feature is only for booking front-country campsites or Parks Canada accommodations—like cabins, yurts and oTENTik tents available in select parks.

If you’re looking for a unique camping getaway, Parks Canada accommodations also offers stays in tipis, MicrOcubes and historic buildings. The ‘Notify me’ feature can be used when booking any of these accommodations.

Here’s How to Use the ‘Notify me’ Feature:

1. Visit the Parks Canada website and login to your account. Input your criteria and search for a site in any of the listed parks.

2. Sites that show a red dot indicate that they are full. If there are no sites available for your desired date, click the ‘notify me’ button in green.

3. Once you click the ‘Notify me’ button, you will automatically receive an alert via the email associated with your account if a site becomes available with your selected criteria. To view your active notifications, go to the menu bar (three lines in the top right corner) and select ‘My notifications.’

4. If you receive an email indicating a site vacancy, sign back into your Parks Canada account and go to your ‘My notifications’ page. From here, you will be able to start the reservation process.

Don’t lose all hope when you see your dream campsite is all booked up for the weekend. Try the ‘Notify me’ button and keep an eye on your email to maximize your chances of getting into your desired site.

Some camping etiquette to consider is to only book days that you will actually be camping at a site, and if your plans change, cancel your booking to help out a fellow camper waiting to score a reservation.
